I attended the University of Kentucky and received my MD and PhD degrees there. My PhD research was investigating techniques of neuronal transplantation that could be used to improve symptoms following traumatic brain or spinal cord injury or in neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson's disease. Following graduation with my MD, I completed a residency in Neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona followed by two fellowships, Clinical Neurophysiology and Epilepsy. I was recruited to come to
